Gamaliel (Gammy) Azevedo Ferreira, passed away peacefully at the age of 81, surrounded by his loving family at home on the morning of Friday, October 9, 2020, after a brief illness.

Gammy is survived by Lotty Ferreira, his wife of 55 years; children Dulce Santos (Kissimmee, FL), Eunice S. Ferreira (Saratoga Springs, NY), Melinda Gaudreau (Mapleville, RI), David Ferreira (North Providence, RI), and Raquel Ferreira (Stoneham, MA); nine cherished grandchildren and one beloved great-grandchild; his sister Eunice Rodrigues (Pawtucket, RI) and his brother José Jaime Ferreira (Espanola, Ontario, Canada); and many nieces and nephews.

Gammy was born in Praia, Cape Verde Islands in 1939 to Rev. Francisco X. Ferreira and Isaura Azevedo. As the son of a pastor, Gammy lived on several islands but the island of Brava, his ancestral home, was closest to his heart. He immigrated to the United States in 1965 where he married Lotty, the love of his life. He worked at Tech Industries in Woonsocket, RI for forty years and was a successful real estate broker with Century 21 Gonsalves-Pastore Realty. Gammy was known and loved for his sense of humor, charming personality, and strong work ethic. His selfless acts extended beyond family to friends, co-workers, clients, and even perfect strangers, who were all benefactors of his generosity and kindness. He was beloved by all.

Gammy centered his life on family and his profound faith in God. He was a life-long member of the Bethany Church of the Nazarene in Rumford, RI, where he dedicated years of service, never hesitating to help with needed improvements or organize a fundraiser. One of his final wishes was that we would continue to honor his life’s call to service. Therefore, we respectfully ask that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in his remembrance to the Bethany Church of the Nazarene, 1275 Pawtucket Avenue, Rumford, RI, 02916.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend memorial services on Wednesday, October 14th from 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at Keefe Funeral Home, Five Higginson Ave., Lincoln, RI. A private celebration of Gammy’s life and Christian service will be held on Thursday, October 15 at 10:30 a.m. at Keefe Funeral Home, with private burial to immediately follow at Swan Point Cemetery, Providence, RI.

Arrangements are made by Keefe Funeral Home, Five Higginson Avenue, Lincoln, RI.
